Looking for some 'russian / ukranian' folk music .. gypsie music .. stuff that has mandolin, folk-ish style ... Special Ed & the Shortbus is a stringband that plays a wide variety of styles...

On a handful songs, they're a straight out klezmer string band (they get some gigs as a jewish wedding band)... Poke around for songs like Der Muzinikal, Russian Rag & Axel F...

No problem...

Also - while they're not on the archive, you should check out the New Orleans Klezmer All Stars...

Mostly clarinet driven though (while I like the solely string based variety)...

Interesting request Tyler, wish I could help you. I can almost see the heads spinning of the usual Dead posters! Hope you get some leads.

Well, Goran Ivanovic is the obvious answer, but seeing as how he's been featured in a show spotlight, you've probably already heard him.

Estradasphere has a few numbers and an overall sound that sort of fits your description, though they're American and approach the gypsy stuff from a jazz/fusion point of view (as does Goran to a degree).

Taarka has got a bit of eastern europe in it. ThaMuseMeant has just a hint (more wrapped up in a singer/songwriter thing there).
